Summer Accessory Must....Nails!

As nail polish has evolved over time, from being a saucy accessory that only bad girls dared to wear, to becoming staple in even the most conservative social circles, women have experimented with some crazy color combinations.  Gone are the days of the simple French manicure and demure pinks and neutrals: today’s trends scream “look at me!”

A fresh manicure and pedicure is an absolute must before stepping out to party here in the Big Apple.  Summer’s hottest trends are being spotted everywhere on celebrities, socialites, and on the New York City girl walking down the street.

RIP Myspace..funny, funny, funny...

We are gathered here together to mourn the loss of our dear friend and family member, MySpace. MySpace is survived by her beloved husband Tom, and their 143, 286 million children.

It is good to see so many of MySpace's children here today. Goth Girl, Hip Hop Artist, Guy in Sun Glasses and a Popped Collar, Two Girls Making Out, and Guy With No Shirt. Thank you for coming.

I first met MySpace five years ago through a friend. She was great. We listened to music, we read to each other, and we passed the time when I was supposed to be doing actual work. She helped me catch up with old friends, and meet new, sluttier friends.

Myspace was kind and forgiving, and didn't judge me when I told her I liked Maroon 5.I thought those days would last forever, like the ads for some dating site where it looks like a webcam of a hot chick checking me out. But she started falling in with the wrong crowd. Before I knew it, all her friends had become pornographers and con-artists, and worse, Rupert Murdoch.

I could barely talk to her without her telling me about Fox's newest buddy cop film or what Lindsay Lohann may or may not have said. Most times I visited, she was blasting terrible music or trying to sell me a giftcard to Victoria's Secret.

After a while I didn't even recognize her - and not just because she was covered in tacky HTML and glittery cursors like some two-dollar whore. Even Tom wasn't really around much anymore. Let's remember the good times. And I mean really remember, not the way that MySpace would tell you to click "remember me" and then not remember you next time you signed on. Remember how hilarious it was to see everyone over 30 years old list themselves as 99.

Remember getting to interact with not only your favorite celebrity, but with 14 other people pretending to be your favorite celebrity. Remember how entertaining it was to listen to your friend's favorite song EVERY SINGLE TIME YOU LOADED THEIR PAGE. And remember the lessons she taught us. Remember that just because you have three kids at home doesn't mean you can't show strangers what you look like bent over a couch. Remember that teenage outcasts can pretend to have names like "Illusion of Chaos," while their real name is Sheldon. And remember that every fat girl has at least one picture of herself taken at precisely the right angle.

I'm going to miss you, MySpace. How else will I get girls I don't know to come to shows, and then maybe sleep with me after? I mean, I could just search by zip code. And they were all so mad at their dads. We're going to miss you, MySpace. But we will be comforted to know that you're in a better place now. With Friendster.

I'm with Troy

Thursday night started out as a bit of a let down at M2 for the NBA party.  I foolishly went early, LOL, as I assumed it would be like the NFL party, but it wasn’t. The doors didn’t open till 11pm and there was no media.  My group of girls was the first to go in and I sat them down in the middle VIP section where they were given wristbands.  It was sort of a let down to my crowd as I hyped up the event thinking it would be like the NFL draft where basically no one could have gotten in. Take that with some salt, though, because it ultimately was an amazing party and there were some basketball players.  Rafer Alston and Lamar Odom did not show up, however, as was promised by the management because apparently most of the players went to Jay-Z’s night club called the 40/40 Club.  That scene is a much more ghetto vibe than even M2 is on a Thursday, but seeing that it is owned by someone much more prominent in the media, I am sure it was an easy pull for Jay-Z to steal all the NBA players to his nightclub.

Rumor has it that Jay-Z and Beyonce were actually at 1Oak, one of Jay-Z’s favorite night clubs and one of mine as well, as I headed there right after M2. Celebs that did go to the M2 Thursday party were Jadakiss and Busta Rhymes, but these guys are no new names to the nightlife scene.  They are consistently out having a good time. Both were spotted the skybox of M2 Thursday night and word is that Jadakiss was wasted.

Well we all know of MJ’s death…such terrible news. When I was partying at 1Oak, DJs Reach and Cassidy were there behind the DJ booth paying tribute to him.  They played his music all night and then for a moment around 3am, they turned off the music and asked everyone to raise their lighters and their cell phones in the air.  All jokes aside, I saw girls crying and it was touching actually, LOL.  I have not cried since my father beat me maybe when I was 9 years old for stealing a Lego from a friend LOL, and while I managed not to that night, I did get some goosebumps.  Very touching moment.  Also, interesting to note, the Wayans brothers cannot seem to get enough of 1Oak.  They were there two nights in a row.  On a mission for women I am sure LOL.

Friday night Pink Elephant was slow.  It has been like that a lot recently, though I did end up meeting a lot of southern girls randomly that night.  Pink Elephant sometimes does attract the pretty blonde type of crew on weekends I guess. Wednesday tends to be more of an urban night and Thursday I guess is their Euro night. Funny story is at the end of the night I opted to join some Trinidadian friends at club Home.  As crazy of a decision as it sounds, I had a blast. Ghetto party, yes, but sometimes going to places like this you realize how snobby others are. Comparing there to 1Oak, the party vibe was a lot more fun and not to mention it had a much better DJ. I’ve always wonder what makes one DJ better than another and I can’t come to a reasonable answer. Of course you have to test their scratching skills and how well they can morph one song into the other, but just as it is with every occupation, I think it’s more important who you know, LOL. Such is life, all about who you know. Anyways the night ended at club Home, ghettoville.

Sat night I decided to dress up nicely and wear a button down for once. Someone told me that people judge you by how you dress earlier in the day and I felt like trying it out. It felt nice to be complemented on how you dress.  As always, I was downstairs at the main room corner table in front the DJ booth. Tables 23 and 24, two tables put together. The DJ at Marquee on Saturday night spins sort of Hip Hop till 2am, then plays trance or house music till 4am when they close. In the upstairs section of Marquee they play Hip Hop on both Friday and Saturday, so they put the better promoters upstairs like Mike St Pierre Ryan Smith and Joe Clark and Matt Assante.

Nightlife is Preserved

So, what happens when you mix all components of nightlife and put them into one room?
You get the
Last night was an amazing time. It was like an office holiday party for all in nightlife. Club owners mingled with bloggers, waitresses danced with doormen, and bottle hosts shmoozed with promoters.

Chloe Sevigny hosted the event, rocking a “Free The Beatrice” t-shirt. Supporting her brother Paul Sevigny’s West Village nightclub, Beatrice Inn.
Steve Lewis, father of nightlife and Blackbook contributor greeted guests with a welcoming smile... referring to each person as his "best friend."
Upon entrance, cameras flashed while many of the City's scene-makers posed in front of the step and repeat. I quickly found my way to the bar to ask "what's included in the open bar tonight?" The response was what many 23 year olds dream to hear..."Whatever you can drink till 1 am." Once these words were uttered I realized that this event was going to go from a Hott party to a Hott Mess!
The music was obviously amazing and it is no surprise that nearly everyone was dancing. I soon realized that most of the clubs and lounges had their own tables with complimentary bottles. I sipped a grey goose and cranberry with some of the boys at "The Eldridge Table" and then made my way towards the stage. I decided to make myself (and my girlfriends) comfortable at the "Greenhouse" table.
My friend Scott, who is one of the owners of Greenhouse, introduced me to several of the industry's "people." I then ran into fellow Joonbug guest contributer Karim Amatulla, and we laughed about how funny industry people can be together in the same room. It's interesting because it was a bit like a competition inside... Who's venue is better, and who had more leggy models drinking from their (free) bottles.
I would say that overall, the event was a success. Is the economy affecting the nightlife industry... maybe, do the scene-makers still know how to party...definitely!
